Long time fans of two wheels we have been pretty excited about whats happening in bicycle design over the past couple of years. Leaving the last decade 19 in every 20 bikes sold were some sort of mountain variety — often complex machines using complex technology. Along with other areas of product design we have seen the simplification of the bicycle in recent years — almost a backlash to the complexities of the past. The new breed are so streamlined and refined that in their purest form many have one gear and no brakes (check out any courier near you). The fixed gear / single-speed phenomenon is as much about an exercise in reduction, restraint and style as it is about cycling.
